About the Role

A leading international engineering and construction consultancy is seeking a Freelance Site Project Manager to oversee a large-scale data centre development in Berlin. This role is ideal for professionals with a strong engineering background—especially in electrical and mechanical systems—and proven experience managing complex data centre construction from planning to commissioning.

You will be responsible for coordinating site activities, ensuring technical compliance, managing contractors and stakeholders, and delivering the project safely, on schedule, and within scope.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily site operations for a major data centre construction project.
• Coordinate and supervise contractors, engineers, and technical teams.
• Ensure all electrical and mechanical installations meet project specifications and compliance standards.
• Monitor project timelines, budgets, materials, and resources.
• Conduct risk assessments and implement safety protocols.
• Manage installation and commissioning of chillers, coolers, and other critical infrastructure.
• Provide technical guidance and resolve on-site engineering issues.
• Prepare progress reports and communicate updates to project stakeholders.
• Ensure strict adherence to German building regulations and safety standards.

Key Requirements

• Minimum 5+ years’ experience working on data centre construction projects.
• Strong Electrical & Mechanical engineering background.
• Demonstrated experience with chillers, cooling systems, HVAC, and related heavy equipment.
• Proven track record managing large-scale construction or technical infrastructure projects.
• Ability to lead teams and coordinate multiple contractors on-site.
• Excellent knowledge of German construction regulations (Bauordnung, safety standards, etc.).
• Fluent German (mandatory).
• Strong organisational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work full-time on-site in Berlin for 12 months.

Preferred Qualifications (Added Advantage)

• Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or Construction Management.
• Prior experience working with international clients or multi-disciplinary teams.
• Knowledge of data centre redundancy systems (UPS, generators, cooling).

Experience with project management software (MS Project, Primavera, etc.).
