Job Summary The Finance Officer is responsible for supporting the financial management and operational efficiency of the organization through effective financial planning, budgeting, reporting, analysis, and compliance. The role oversees accounts payable and receivable functions, cash flow management, financial forecasting, and the implementation of strong internal controls. The Finance Officer will also contribute to business growth by supporting client relationship management, identifying business opportunities, and assisting in the development of strategies that drive revenue generation and operational excellence.

Core Purpose of the Role

The Finance Officer will be responsible for:

  • Financial planning, budgeting, reporting, and analysis.
  • Accounts payable and accounts receivable management.
  • Cash flow monitoring and management.
  • Financial forecasting and financial modeling.
  • Ensuring compliance with financial regulations, policies, and statutory requirements.
  • Maintaining the integrity and accuracy of financial data.
  • Supporting business development initiatives by attracting new clients and maintaining strong relationships with existing clients.
  • Conducting market research and identifying growth opportunities that contribute to organizational success.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports, management accounts, budgets, forecasts, and financial analyses.
  • Monitor organizational cash flow and recommend strategies to optimize liquidity and financial performance.
  • Support annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of accounting records and financial documentation.
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes to ensure timely transactions and reconciliations.
  • Maintain the integrity and confidentiality of financial information.

Process Improvement & Internal Controls

  • Streamline and automate accounting and finance processes across the organization by promoting best practices.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement efficient financial workflows.
  • Act as a change agent by driving the adoption of process improvement initiatives and resolving operational barriers.
  • Clearly communicate process improvement opportunities and implementation requirements to stakeholders.
  • Ensure adequate internal controls are established and maintained across all operational areas.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, business controls, and statutory regulations.

Stakeholder Management

  • Foster strong working relationships across departments and provide quality support to internal stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with business leaders and process owners.
  • Collaborate with operational teams to streamline procurement and expenditure management processes.
  • Work closely with management to align financial activities with business objectives.

Team Coordination & Administration

  • Support team administration and staff development initiatives.
  • Maintain effective systems for tracking and reporting Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Monitor team performance and ensure KPI targets are consistently achieved.
  • Implement robust contingency and backup plans to ensure continuity of service delivery.
  • Assist in developing a high-performance culture focused on accountability and results.

Business Development Support

  • Support initiatives aimed at attracting new clients and strengthening existing client relationships.
  • Conduct market research and provide insights to support business growth strategies.
  • Identify potential business opportunities and contribute to revenue-generating initiatives.
  • Support the development and execution of business strategies that align with organizational goals.

Qualifications & Experience Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Must be ICAN certified or at an advanced/professional stage of ICAN qualification.
  • Additional professional certifications such as ACCA or ANAN will be an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 – 4 years of relevant experience in Finance, Accounting, Audit, or a related role.
  • Proven experience in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Experience in implementing financial controls and process improvement initiatives is highly desirable.

Knowledge Requirements

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial management practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Proficiency in accounting and financial management software.
  • Knowledge of applicable financial reporting standards and statutory requirements.
  • Understanding of industry trends and business priorities.
  • Ability to anticipate challenges and develop innovative solutions for continuous improvement.
