Job Description

United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is seeking a Protection Associate to support the delivery of effective protection services for populations of concern in Adamawa State. Reporting to the Protection Officer, the Protection Associate will play a key role in monitoring protection standards, managing individual protection cases, and supporting durable solutions in line with international and national protection frameworks. The role involves close collaboration with communities, government authorities, and implementing partners to ensure protection safeguards are effectively mainstreamed and upheld.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the implementation of protection standards in line with UNHCR policies and SOPs
  • Manage individual protection cases, including GBV and child protection cases
  • Support eligibility and refugee status determination processes
  • Contribute to durable solutions such as voluntary repatriation, local integration, and resettlement
  • Liaise with communities, government authorities, and implementing partners
  • Ensure protection safeguards are mainstreamed across programmes
  • Maintain accurate protection records and documentation
  • Support protection assessments, reporting, and data collection
  • Ensure compliance with international and national protection laws and frameworks
  • Promote accountability, confidentiality, and protection principles in all activities

Requirements

  • 3 years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma, OR
  • 2 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s Degree
  • Background in protection, humanitarian, or refugee related work
  • Strong knowledge of international and national protection laws and standards
  • Experience handling individual protection cases is an advantage
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and communities
