About the job
Company Description
Startup Launchcode is a dynamic startup studio focused on building, launching, and scaling promising technology-driven ventures from idea to market. We combine startup speed with experienced product, engineering, and business execution to create practical, scalable solutions across different industries.
Our mission is to help transform promising ideas into viable businesses by supporting product development, technical execution, and market deployment. We work with founders, operators, and internal venture teams to build innovative solutions that solve real business problems.
Role Description
We are seeking a full-time remote Internet of Things (IoT) Engineer to support the development and integration of connected systems across one of our emerging technology ventures.
In this role, you will work on IoT solution design, device testing, hardware-to-software integration, data communication, and connected product deployment. You will help evaluate and integrate IoT devices, sensors, connectivity modules, and cloud-based systems to ensure reliable data flow between physical assets and digital platforms.
The ideal candidate should be comfortable working across hardware, software, APIs, device communication protocols, and cloud infrastructure. You will collaborate with product, engineering, and operations teams to support the development of scalable connected solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, test, and support IoT-based solutions for connected products and systems.
- Evaluate and configure IoT devices, sensors, modules, and related hardware.
- Support device-to-cloud communication using APIs, MQTT, HTTP, webhooks, or other relevant protocols.
- Work with hardware prototyping tools such as Raspberry Pi, Arduino, or similar development boards.
- Support integration between IoT devices, cloud platforms, databases, and software applications.
- Troubleshoot device connectivity, data transmission, network, SIM/APN, and configuration issues.
- Document device capabilities, integration processes, technical limitations, and test results.
- Collaborate with software engineers to ensure device data is properly captured, processed, and displayed.
- Support pilot deployments, field testing, and performance validation.
- Research new IoT tools, platforms, and hardware options that can support product development.
Qualifications
- Experience in Internet of Things (IoT) solution development or connected systems.
- Strong understanding of software development and programming.
- Experience with device-to-cloud communication and IoT integration.
- Familiarity with MQTT, HTTP APIs, webhooks, TCP/IP, and other network protocols.
- Hands-on experience with hardware prototyping tools such as Raspberry Pi, Arduino, ESP32, or similar platforms.
- Understanding of sensors, embedded systems, connectivity modules, and real-time data transmission.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms relevant to IoT, such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or similar tools.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot hardware/software integration issues.
- Good documentation, collaboration, and communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
Nice to Have
- Experience with GPS, telematics, connected mobility, asset monitoring, or remote equipment monitoring.
- Familiarity with CAN bus, OBD-II, J1939, or vehicle/industrial data protocols.
- Experience working with SIM cards, APN configuration, LTE/4G devices, or edge connectivity.
- Experience integrating third-party IoT hardware or vendor APIs.
- Familiarity with dashboards, data pipelines, alerts, and real-time monitoring systems.
- Experience with field testing, device installation validation, or pilot deployment support.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who is practical, curious, and execution-driven. The ideal candidate should be able to move between hardware, software, data, and real-world testing without needing everything to be perfectly defined.
- This role is a good fit for someone who enjoys building early-stage connected products, testing devices, solving technical problems, and helping turn raw data from physical systems into useful digital insights.
