Job Description
International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is seeking a qualified and experienced GIS & Meteorological Officer to support its research programs by providing high quality geospatial and meteorological services. The ideal candidate will manage weather station networks, conduct GIS and remote sensing analysis, process meteorological data, and generate accurate spatial products for decision making. The role also involves supervising interns, coordinating educational field visits, and ensuring reliable data reporting across IITA stations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage and maintain automatic and conventional weather station networks
• Install, service, and troubleshoot meteorological instruments
• Collect, analyze, and interpret meteorological and climate data
• Conduct GIS and remote sensing analysis, including drone data processing
• Produce maps, spatial datasets, and geospatial reports
• Supervise interns, NYSC members, and students
• Coordinate educational tours to the IITA weather station
• Prepare documentation and technical reports
• Support additional duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
• Proficiency in GIS software: ArcGIS, QGIS, and remote sensing tools
• Experience with weather stations and meteorological data protocols
• Strong spatial analysis and environmental data skills
• Experience using R or Python for geospatial analysis
• Excellent communication, presentation, and report writing skills
• Ability to work independently and in teams
• Strong organizational and supervisory ability
