High-level overview
The client is a growing pan-African advisory firm supporting organizations entering and expanding across African markets. To strengthen its client delivery and business development capabilities, the client is seeking a Research Analyst to produce accurate, timely, and actionable market intelligence.
Reporting to the Project Manager, the consultant will support engagements across energy, finance, infrastructure, and mining through sector research, stakeholder mapping, database development, briefing materials, and market monitoring.
The role is research- and intelligence-focused, with all client-facing outputs subject to Project Manager review.

Deliverables
- Conduct market, sector, company, and database research to support active client engagements and internal decision-making across energy, finance, infrastructure, and mining.
- Develop and maintain accurate stakeholder, company, prospect, and sector databases, with clear source records and consistent quality control.
- Monitor relevant news, tenders, market developments, opportunities, risks, and competitor activity, flagging important developments to the Project Manager.
- Prepare concise briefing notes and research packs ahead of client and stakeholder meetings, and provide well-sourced inputs for proposals, reports, and other deliverables.
- Conduct stakeholder mapping and support market-entry research, country and sector profiles, market landscapes, and project-specific intelligence.
- Support business development by researching prospective clients, sectors, and markets and preparing inputs for outreach and proposal materials.
- Produce a weekly research summary, update sector-specific databases, and organize research files and sources for accuracy, accessibility, and reuse.
- Respond to assigned research requests within agreed timelines and incorporate review feedback before any findings are shared externally.
Requirements
Experience Required
- One to three years of experience in research, market intelligence, strategy, consulting, investment, policy, or an analyst role.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct rigorous desk research, synthesize findings, verify facts, and produce concise, decision-useful outputs.
- Experience covering African markets or the energy, infrastructure, finance, or mining sectors is advantageous.
Technical Requirements
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, Teams, Zoom, SharePoint, CRM software, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Ability to build and maintain structured databases, stakeholder maps, research logs, briefing notes, market landscapes, and country or sector profiles.
- Excellent source management, fact-checking, data organization, analytical writing, and presentation skills.
Soft Skills
- Intellectually curious, analytical, and highly attentive to accuracy and detail.
- Clear and concise writer with sound judgment about relevance, evidence quality, and confidentiality.
- Proactive and responsive, with strong time management and the ability to prioritize competing research requests.
- Collaborative and receptive to feedback, while able to work independently within an assigned scope.
Additional Information About Desired Profiles
- A bachelor’s degree in Economics, International Relations, Business, Political Science, or a related discipline is required.
- Familiarity with African political economies and commercial research sources would be beneficial.
Working Arrangement
Location:
Johannesburg, South Africa (Hybrid)
Travel Requirements:
Limited travel may be required to support project or stakeholder engagements.
Terms of Agreement
Required Start Date:
Beginning of August 2026
Contracting Period:
Initial 6-month contract, with a possible extension subject to business needs, performance, and mutual agreement.
