About the Role
A leading international banking institution is seeking a highly motivated Assistant Control Manager to join its Risk & Compliance function in Guangzhou. This role supports business units by ensuring adherence to internal policies, regulatory requirements, and control standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong banking background, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams, including onshore stakeholders.
This position offers a hybrid work model and the opportunity to contribute to high-impact compliance, governance, and risk initiatives within the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- The Assistant Control Manager will be responsible for supporting the organisation’s risk and control framework through:
- Ensuring business units comply with internal policies, procedures, and statutory regulations
- Supporting Risk & Control Assessment (RCA) reviews, updates, and documentation
- Conducting data analysis to identify, assess, and monitor operational risks
- Supporting ad hoc risk, compliance, and internal control projects
- Facilitating communication and alignment with onshore managers and key stakeholders
- Coordinating timely and accurate responses to regulatory, compliance, or audit inquiries
- Preparing monthly performance reports summarising control activities and task status
- Monitoring and evaluating control effectiveness using governance metrics, QC/QA results, KPI/KCI tracking, and other compliance indicators
Requirements
- Candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Degree or equivalent qualification in business, finance, risk management, or related discipline
- Minimum 3 years’ banking experience, ideally within retail banking
- Strong understanding of compliance, internal controls, and risk management principles
- Fluent in English and Chinese with excellent written communication skills
- Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and other operational or reporting tools
- Strong attention to detail, analytical mindset, and high level of accuracy
- Effective time management and project management skills
- Proactive, responsible, and able to work independently
- Immediate right to work in China preferred
- Preferred Skills (Added Advantage)
- Experience working in risk, audit, compliance, or control functions
- Familiarity with governance frameworks, operational risk tools, and control testing
- Data-driven mindset with the ability to interpret trends and risk indicators
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional and cross-border teams
