Role’s Summary:

The Research Consultant will conduct a comprehensive study on the Tom Brown approach to addressing Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) in children under five in Borno State, Nigeria.

Responsibilities:

•  Conduct Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs)
• Ensure accurate transcription and translation of audio recordings
• Prepare and submit weekly and monthly field reports
• Provide daily/weekly briefings to the Research Coordinator
• Collaborate with stakeholders to develop research protocols
• Oversee data collection and analysis
• Develop and review project implementation plans
• Coordinate logistics for study implementation
• Lead analysis of qualitative data
• Synthesize research data and findings for internal and external purposes
• Support write-up of peer-reviewed manuscripts
• Represent IRC Nigeria’s nutrition research with partners
• Contribute to development of standard operating procedures
• Coordinate submission of study protocol for ethical approval
• Ensure ethical considerations are taken into account
• Develop and review project timelines and budgets
• Provide technical assistance to study personnel
• Monitor quality of implementation and data collection
• Facilitate dissemination of research findings
• Work closely with IRC sector teams
• Support relationship building with local research institutes
• Lead in writing progress reports

Skills:

• Strong skills in interview techniques and rapport building
• Proficiency in local dialects (Hausa is an asset)
• Experience in qualitative research methods
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and qualitative research software

Education:

•  Advanced Degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Planning, or related fields
• Relevant work experience can be considered as a substitute for a higher degree
