Job Description

Role’s Summary:

The National Consultant will contribute to developing Food-Based Dietary Guidelines for Nigeria, supporting improved nutrition outcomes for children and women.

Responsibilities:

  •  Contribute to defining the Food-Based Dietary Guidelines mandate
  • Identify national policies and commitments supporting sustainability
  • Propose entry points for sustainability in the mandate
  • Identify additional stakeholders for the FBDGs development process
  • Conduct policy and programme reviews covering food systems-related policies
  • Analyze secondary data on diet factors associated with health and nutrition issues
  • Contribute to revising diet goals/targets considering trade-offs
  • Review evidence on effective interventions across the food system
  • Contribute to the situation analysis and evidence review report
  • Support capacity-building activities for government and partners
  • Develop and finalize clear, concise documents
  • Collaborate with technical partners and stakeholders
  • Provide technical guidance on nutrition issues
  • Support resource mobilization efforts
  • Contribute to nutrition programme planning and implementation
  • Document best practices and lessons learned
  • Support emergency nutrition response
  • Work with government counterparts and partners
  • Identify and address nutrition gaps and challenges
  • Develop strategies for improving nutrition outcomes
  • Support monitoring and evaluation activities
  • Provide technical support to partners and stakeholders

Skills:

  •  Excellent knowledge of nutrition, food security, and health systems in Nigeria
  • Experience in analyzing scientific data and writing scientific reports
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Experience working with government and partners
  • Knowledge of FBDG development and implementation
  • Experience in capacity-building and training
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Education:

  • Advanced degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Food Science, Public Health, or related field
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field with significant experience
